Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand Incorporated (BreastSurgANZ) is committed to improving the care of patients with both malignant and benign breast disease. Through research, teaching, and the development of new strategies, BreastSurgANZ hopes to help its members maintain quality care that is focused around their patients. Through the BreastSurgANZ Quality Audit, the group continuously monitors and assesses the performance of its members. Members of BreastSurgANZ are very dedicated to ensuring and maintaining the best patient care possible. Members are given the chance to receive hands-on training and participate in the development of surgical training for future breast surgeons.
In order to ensure that members stay up-to-date, BreastSurgANZ provides post-fellowship training programs. These programs require trainees to have a certain range of experience and knowledge. Some of the experience requirements include a minimum of 15 mastectomy cases, at least 25 benign breast disease cases, and at least five cases of skin-sparing mastectomies. Trainees must also have experience in attending certain team meetings and assessment clinics. Through BreastSurgANZ, members are also able to train with other specialties such as general surgery, endocrine surgery, or surgical oncology. BreastSurgANZ holds several meetings and conventions that allow for attendees to connect and share information. These meetings can be focused on single topics, on new scientific research and findings, or be a broad culmination of information from all areas related to breast surgery.
